When I said no to VEs

Today at my 38 week appt I told my doctor that I declined having further exams. I actually typed out a letter and listed my reasons. Many of which were listed in the article above.

He accused me of having some other reason, and that the typed letter was just something I put together to hide my real reason.

I was insulted.

He didn't like to be told after practicing for over 29 years that it wasn't going to happen. I got angry that he called me a liar.

Now I have two appts left before my due date and I'm not sure I want to go back. I know that they do a urine check for protein etc (health stuff) and they check my blood pressure that's it.

I've been aware of how to take blood pressure for years, I can do that myself AND if anything symptomatic comes up I'll just take myself to the hospital L&D, I'm close enough to delivery anyway.

Thank you for this article, and I hope that more women will stand up for less exams. I urge every one of them to bring reasons to a doctor's attention with a cited medical source(on why exams aren't necessary) they tend to listen at least a little bit when you document legitimate sources.

Though mine still went on his power trip.

Women have been having babies without doctors for eons.
