We are very particular about inducing labour. As your article suggests there it is not sensible to try to induce labour too early. And with herbs you cannot 'make' the baby come out if they are not ready.
We work with mums-to-be on a one-to-one basis so that we can prescribe herbal medicines correctly. For some mums, there may be a fear of the actual birthing process or something around that (such as not being 'allowed' to give birth where they want to) and in this case nervous system herbs are used along side other herbs that help with labour.
For other women their uterus is hypertonic (over-toned) and need relaxing while other are hypotonic (and therefore need toning). Then there are herbs that help the cervix to ripen and so on.
What I am saying here ladies is that I urge you to consult a herbalist if you need help with inducing labour. It is such an important time for you and baby and you want to get it right.
In the UK there is the National Institute of Medical Herbalists which regulates herbalists (www.nimh.org.uk) and they have members abroad also. But there must be regulatory bodies in the States too.
