VBAC of triplets?

We know what you are thinking! No way...not in this country where Doctors cut you open for everything it seems.

In this case, you'd be wrong! On January 7, 2010, ICAN - International Cesarean Awareness Network - announced that in Atlanta, Georgia, a woman delivered - at term (38 weeks) - healthy triplets after C-section. Her doctor? Dr. Joseph Tate. Kudos for this awesome doctor. We need more doctors like him!

Usually, Dr. Tate does not medicate his moms. However, in this case of VBAC of triplets, this mom received an epidural since Dr. Tate felt that he may need to reach for the 3rd baby since he was high and breech. He did indeed reach for that baby.

This mother was allowed to birth her triplets vaginally and the birth did occur at the hospital. Her first two babies were vertex - head down - and her third baby as mentioned above was born breech and a footling breech at that.

All 3 babies are girls and all had APGAR scores of 8 through 9.

All were term and healthy and they did not necessitate to spend any time in the NICU - neonatal intensive care unit.

Here are some of the details about the babies:

The presenting baby girl born at 10:24 pm and weighed 4 lbs 6 oz. and measured 18 1/4 inches. One sister followed 13 minutes later at 10:37 and she weighed 6 lbs 4 oz and measured 18 1/4 inches as well. She was the glutton of the bunch it seems! The last of the girls arrived 2 minutes later at 10:39, weighing 3 lbs 11 oz and measuring 16 1/2 inches. She was a double footling breech and an extraction as well. She is also the peanut of the bunch.

All three of the girls are doing well and mama is breastfeeding. Kudos for this awesome mom and congratulations for these beautiful additions to this family.
