Still producing milk years after
by Heather
(Los Angeles, CA)
My son is now 3.5 years old, we stopped breast feeding around 14 months, he didn't want to nurse anymore he just wanted to lay there, still does and that's fine with me I cherish the time and will never say no to a cuddle.
However, I still produce milk, it's been over 2 years now and I am not able to have any more children nor am I planning on adopting. I wish I had the time and energy to pump and donate but I simply don't.
The pain at certain times in my cycle is excruciating and it feels like it did when he was first born and when we had thrush - single most painful thing ever, including birth!
I am just wondering if there is anything that I can do to stop the process, it feels unnatural to me to want to stop it but the pain is just too much.
Thankfully my partner is wonderful and understanding about it but I do find myself being a bit self conscious at times, too.
I had my ups and downs with my supply; went from practically over production to nothing at 6 months and then back to more than DS needed so I donated 400 ounces to a mama in need.
Is there anything I can do to mitigate the pain and stop the production? Or is my body going to continue to produce as long as my son stays close to me (because I don't see that changing for a long time and I wouldn't want it to)
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you Heather
