Naomi's Birth DiaryNaomi Jessica Grace was born today - April 23rd, 2010 - at 5:20 am and boy was it exciting! I had the complete opposite experience this time as with my first who took 11 hours 20 minutes with 2 hours of pushing and no urge to push, etc. With this little girl, my contractions started at 3 am but I wasn't sure if it was real labor. They were a lot different than the first time. Instead of building up in intensity, they started out real strong but then only lasted a few seconds so I decided to wait and see. I got in the shower and kept having them so I started getting dressed around 4:30 am. While I was getting dressed I accidentally woke our daughter who wanted to be held. I woke my husband and as soon as he took her, my contractions doubled in intensity. We called the midwives and Melissa said to come in right away. So we called my mom to come stay with Rachel. In the 12 minutes it took for her to get to my home, I had about 4 or 5 more excruciating contractions! I called her telling her to hurry up! As soon as she arrived we left. My husband started to go back to give my mom some keys and I told him NO WAY!!!!! By about 10 minutes out, the contractions were almost constant. I couldn't stop myself from pushing and was screaming to Michael that the baby was coming and to pull over! He didn't want to even when I told him I felt her crowning. He got on the phone with the midwife and she heard me and told him to pull over!! She had to yell to get him to finally do it but he finally pulled over into a 76 gas station parking lot and called 911. Less than 5 minutes later Naomi was born!!
My husband delivered her and we put her on my tummy and wrapped her up in his coat. A few minutes later, the police showed up, then the fire paramedics, then the ambulance. They got me and Naomi into the ambulance, cut the cord, evaluated her - almost a perfect 10 on the scale - and got us going to the birth center/hospital! Right when we pulled up to the hospital the placenta came out - after plenty of back pain - and the EMT said it was torn and started hurrying us up. But when my midwife saw it she said it was just a blood clot and there was nothing to worry about and that the EMT must have been new because there was no sign of a tear. I did get a 2nd degree tear in my vagina but I actually figured I'd torn because I felt myself dilating so fast. Even though I wasn't able to get the antibiotics for the strep B virus they aren't worried at all because my water didn't break until she was coming out. So that's a big relief for me!
Naomi weighs 8 lbs 1 ounce and measures 19.75 inches long. She was born after 2 hours and 20 minutes of labor. She's sleeping peacefully next to me and I'm feeling great!
