Mustard Pack RecipeA mustard pack is known under other names:
But what is a mustard poultice? A pack - poultice, cataplasm or plaster - is a soft moist (often warm) mass that is spread over the skin to treat an inflamed, aching or painful area, to improve the circulation, etc. The word cataplasm comes from the Greek kataplasso which means to spread over. Why would you use a mustard poultice? A mustard poultice is a time-honored therapy - I remember my mom using them. Mustard plasters are used to treat lung congestion, coughs, bronchitis and pneumonia. A mustard cataplasm not only offers relief from chest discomfort, it also helps to relieve infections. How does a mustard plaster work? A mustard poultice works by increasing circulation in the area it is applied. It increases perspiration and heat in the afflicted area. Mustard Pack Recipe
Making a mustard cataplasm is easy: mix the flour and mustard with enough water to make a thin paste resembling a thin pancake batter.
Cut a piece of cloth about 12 inches by 6 inches. Place it on top of the parchment paper.
Spread the mustard-flour batter onto half of the cloth.
Fold in half.
Put some vaseline - or shortening - on the nipples of the person receiving the mustard poultice to protect tender areas. Place the mustard pack on top of the chest area and place a heating pad - or hot water bottle - on top. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes - 20 minutes being perfect. Do not use on small children. Have "your patient" rest and drink lots of liquids after and during this treatment. To leave a comment or review Click Here Mustard poultice ~ Read others' comments and reviews.
