Why would a woman choose giving birth naturally over a medicalized birth?

A lot of people are baffled by that very choice. In the age of modern medicine, when your whole labor can be micromanaged...when you can give birth without ever feeling anything...when you can choose when you will have your baby by being induced or planning a c-section or you can decide to not feel the whole thing by receiving an epidural or other forms of pain relief...why would any woman choose to have an all natural childbirth? In this context, choosing natural childbirth seems silly. Or does it?

If you had an all natural birth, certainly you must have heard questions and/or comments such as:

Didn't you feel anything?

On purpose?

You are braver than me.

Oh no not me, to me natural childbirth is giving birth without make-up on.

Why would you choose to suffer?

We all have our different stories of how we came to embrace an all natural childbirth but we can safely assume that not one of you have made that choice because you liked pain.

For some of you, you were blessed to have a strong, powerful woman - a mom, a grand-mother, a friend - who guided you and taught you. Maybe your mom had a natural birth and you followed in her footsteps.

For others that choice came after a traumatic birth in which you felt abused and powerless.

Yet for others, it happened by "chance"...you were at the right place at the right time...you stumbled upon information which made you look further and ask lots of questions.

There are still women out there who are trying to make a choice or who need validation for their choice to birth naturally. We want you to have the opportunity to share your story and help them...how did YOU come to your decision to give birth naturally?
