inaccurate statements
by: Anonymous

I'm sure they did not puncture your spinal cord when they did the epidural. The consequences would have been much worse than what they were. People need to get their facts straight. I wonder how many people she told this story to.

Still Sore 7 months later
by: Anonymous

I had to have a blood patch and 7 months after my beautiful daughter was born, I still have stiffness and some pain in my back. That's what's led me to sites like this to see how common this is and how often it occurs. I'm sorry to hear about your story. I had some major depression issues when I couldn't hold my baby. I cried a lot, and I hate that others have to go through the same thing. If I can handle it second time around, I'll go w/o the drugs, thank you very much.

Headache
by: Amanda

I am having a natural birth (any day now!) for this very reason. A few years ago I had a spinal tap done as it wsa thought I has meningitis. The spinal headache I got from that was so bad, I thought I was going to die. I can totally relate to your post. I went back to the hospital two days later and they put me on a caffine drip and gave me morphine. They said they would do the blood patch if things didn't improve. I was so terrified about them going back into my spine that I waited it out - after two weeks the pain finally started to subside.

I can honestly say no labor pain could rival that of a spinal headache. Glad to hear you are doing better.

my experience
by: Anonymous

I gave birth 5 days ago and I am still feeling the side effects from the epidural,I endured labor pains with no meds but when the doctor came to check me while 3 centimeters dilated he told me to get an epidural so I could rest since I had been at the hospital since 11:00p.m the night before and now it had been 12 hours. He told me he wanted me to be able to rest before I had to push the baby out. So I had the epidural at that time and I am now suffering these wicked headaches that are so painful I can't sit up correctly. My head feels like it is pounding constantly and my neck is really stiff I can't turn my head. On top of all of that I was stuck 4 times before getting the epidural in the right place. I felt it only in the right leg and it made my leg jump twice that happened, then it happened once on the left side before she actually got it right. I thought it was just me having side effects but now that I have read comments from these other ladies I see that it is not just me who has experienced this. I'm on a regimen of motrin and tylonol every 6 hours alternating between the 2. But when it wears off it is so painful to even move. I feel guilty for taking meds I have a high pain tolerance and taking anything is not a usual thing for me. I just want to enjoy my new baby without pain.

another epidural hell
by: Anonymous

I was given epidural at over 6 cm dilated after 60+ hrs of labor, as they thought I coud not relax because of pain, which was not true, but I had had not energy for discussing and thinking at that point. The epidural stopped my labor... And now 9 month after that I am still having side effects of nerve damage. Ohhh!

just say no
by: lulu

Too bad they gave the epidural at only 6 cms. Obviously, it was not really necessary and ending up making it a great deal worse. Labor pains usually come in waves and get harder and progressively stronger until the mother feels the urge to push. Epidurals and induction are not without side effects which can lead to other complications less desireable. Get really educated early in your pregnancy perferably with a midwife or doula and read all the pros and cons. We are not wimps, we are strong women and need to be our own advocates.

i know the pain

I went through pretty much the same thing. I am still battling headaches 6 days later but I opted out of getting a blood patch. My cause was because the student missed my epidural 2 times before finally getting it right.
