Emma
We thought my due date was November 15th at first but she proved us wrong. December 2nd at 6 am on the dot my husband's alarm went off for work so I got up to go pack his lunch. When I stood up I thought I peed myself. I went to the bathroom and I had pink running down my leg, my water broke! I hopped in the shower and rinsed off. I told hubby I wasn't having contractions and that could take up to 24 hours for labor to start so he wasn't worried he still headed off to work. 6:45 am, my mom came over and helped me get the tub blown up and move furniture out of the way. My son - Jacob - woke up a 7:45. When he came down stairs and saw the pool up he got all excited and was asking for sissy because I have been telling him when the tub comes out sissy would come that day so he was all excited. 8 am, my husband rolls in the driveway again and said his bosses sent him home because they are being all drama and "think women just instantly push babies out after waters break like on tv." We both laughed about it.
I was wondering if I wanted to go for a walk that morning or not. It was our first freezing morning of the year and it was 27 degrees at our house. I bundled up Jacob put him in the stroller and my mom and I headed out around the neighborhood. We went for a 20 minute walk and got back to the house around 10. Contractions started once I got in the door. They were right on top of each other, 1 1/2 minutes apart lasting 30 seconds. I called my midwife just to tell her that they started but they weren't lasting very long. She said she would head over anyways. They were never extremely intense contractions like I had with my son. I just sang to Jack Johnson in the background and my 23 month old would play his guitar off key and singing with mama haha. My midwife got there at 10:30. Hubby was filling the tub. Contractions were still only lasting about 30 to 35 seconds but a minute or two apart.
I got into the tub at 10:45 and was very happy once again. Jacob was feeding his mama his animal crackers and singing with me through contractions.
Then at 11, I started to feel pushy but not strong so I had my midwife check me I was 9 cm with a little lip but when she was done I had to push a little. I never felt the full body urge to push with every muscle in by body like I did with Jacob. My midwife just said "push when you feel like it." then Jacob got excited having no clue what pushing was and started chanting "MAMA PUSH MAMA PUSH!"
I pushed 7 or 8 little pushes that just felt like I kinda wanted to push but so so. On the 7th push, out came her head no ring of fire, then her shoulders and chest, fire! And she had the audacity to be sleeping when she was born haha snoring actually. Emma is a chunky monkey! She has rolls everywhere. Her thigh rolls have rolls. She has a triple chin and a head full of hair. She was still covered in vernix so she was not 2 1/2 weeks overdue like we may have thought. She was right on time. She was 9 lbs 12 oz, 21 1/2 inches long. I gained 27 lbs and she was about 10 lbs of it! After the birth, we cut the cord once it was done pulsating. About 25 minutes later, I wasn't having any urges to push out my placenta so we handed Emma to daddy and I got out of the tub. It finally passed a few minutes later but then I was pouring blood out. Not the normal amount and I knew what was up but I didn't want to freak out my mom, hubby, my mother-in-law, and especially Jacob. My midwife came over gave me a quick shot of pitocin which I needed at that point because Emma had no interest in wanting to nurse yet...she was sleeping. Now she is nursing like a champ and she has been sleeping well. She passed her meconium 4 hours after birth and before bed, she already had three wet diapers. I suffered no tearing not even a skid mark with her so no burning when peeing much to my relief!
