Florence: The whole due date thing can be quite confusing. Indeed doctors and midwives alike do go by the first day or your last menstrual period or LPM to calculate your due date to which 40 weeks are added.

If you calculate from your conception date then you must add 38 weeks. The dates then should be similar.

A word of caution, even though you KNOW when you had intercourse, you cannot be certain that is the day your conceived. Under the right circumstances (around ovulation) sperm survival can be up to one week. So your baby could have come into existence a few days after intercourse.

This is the reason why, your last menstrual period plus 40 weeks is used.

Remember no matter the method a due date is just a guesstimate. Babies come anywhere between 37 and 42 (or more) weeks. Your baby like you is an individual and we cannot generalize with individuals.
