Brandon's Birth Diary

The day I had my son was pretty much like any other day. It was Wednesday January 9th, and I was 39 weeks.

That day, I went to school and I did not have any contractions for quite a while. However, the day before at my doctor's appointment, I was dilated 3cm.

After school - since it is over at 12 - I went to hang out with my friends. I started feeling contractions but they weren't that intense or close together.

By around 6:40pm I started to head home. I had been in Manhattan, and I live in the Bronx. So I got on the train and by time I got in the Bronx the contractions were getting way closer. I mean like every other stop. They weren't too much stronger but they were really close.

By time I got to my house, I barely had time in between the contractions and they were super strong.

Brandon Jr.

A few minutes after I arrived home, my mom came home. I used the bathroom and saw mucous tainted with blood. We called the doctor and he told me to head to the hospital.

As I got dressed my fiance came home and we told him to get my bags.

We got to the hospital a little before 10 pm and I went to triage. I was 5cm when they evaluated me and then they sent me to an L and D room. I got an IV.

Then the anesthesiologist came to talk to me about getting an epidural and the next thing I know, I was 10 centimeters and I couldn't get it...

After about seven pushes or so, out slid my long little baby boy, 6 lbs 10.8 oz. and 19 inches long - Brandon Jr. So that's his story....

That's how fast my little boy came to be born: in the hospital for a little more than an hour and my whole life changed. My fiance and I went from being a couple to a family in a matter of moments.

I wanted the epidural but I'm glad I didn't have it and now, I don't ever want it. It was an amazing experience and I'm truly proud of myself. I went completely drug free, no pitocin, my water broke on its own and no pain meds.
