Ava's Natural Birth Diary

My water broke at 3:30 am on Wednesday, April 22.

I called my midwife to inform her and to tell her I wasn't having any strong contractions and that they were over 30 mins apart. She told me to get some rest and call her in the morning. She also had the doula come by and check on me to ensure all was well.

I called her in the morning and let her know everything was the same. I spent the rest of the day in my "lady diaper" cause I was still leaking fluids, having mild to medium contractions, and doing last minute shopping.

It was great!!!

The next morning around the same time my contractions started to become more intense and closer together. I called my midwife and she told me she would come if I wanted her to but I said no just to wait.

By noon the contractions were regular and getting intense.

I called her back and she said she would be at my house between 3 and 4 unless I thought I needed her sooner. I told her no so I could just enjoy this time with my family.

We watched movies, ate lunch, took the dog to the vet, took my son to swim lessons all while I was having contractions.

She arrived about 3:30 and checked me and I was 4 cm and 100% effaced. She gave me some organic dissolving pill*** that goes under the tongue to help speed up labor.

***Probably a homeopathic remedy. (Note by Natural Pregnancy Mentor)

About 10 minutes after having the pill the contractions were about 2 minutes apart so we set up the birthing pool.

At 5:48 my little mama, Ava, was born.

She laid on top of me and did the "breast crawl,"*** totally cool.

***The breast crawl is when a newborn unmedicated baby crawls by himself all the way to his mother's breast. (Note by Natural Pregnancy Mentor)

After about 25 minutes the cord stopped pulsating and we cut it. I stood up and the placenta just came out.

It was calm and relaxing. My perfect birth.

Pushed out by Mommy and caught by Daddy!!! 7lb 4 oz
