Kadence RileySo finally I went into labor on the 8th. I was having contractions all day, but nothing serious. I had my husband come home around 3pm since I had lost my mucous plug a bit earlier and I had him take me to the mall to walk. I was determined to have our baby! We went home after I started getting sick at the mall. We went on another walk around the block that evening....still nothing major happening. My contractions were not hurting and they were anywhere from 5-7 min apart. I took a bath once we got home and then I decided to go on another walk. The contractions got closer and a little more intense on that walk which was around 11pm. We came home and hung out. Everything was fine and I was just breathing through each contractions. ![]() I took another warm bath - it was probably the fourth one in the day - and I lost more mucous plug and finally had some bloody show around midnight. My husband finally convinced me we should head to the birth center around 1:30am. He - and everyone in the house - had already been getting everything and everyone ready to go. I kept insisting I wasn't ready yet because I could still talk throughout my contractions. I had progressed to having to "walk them out" though. So we left at 1:45am - my husband, myself and his sister in one vehicle and my parents, my 3 boys and my brother's daughter in another vehicle. About 20 minutes later we arrived at birth center. The last couple of contractions in the car were pretty intense! By then, I was happy we had left! We went inside, I peed which I had to do which seemed like every 5 minutes - I walked out several more contractions. Then I was checked by my midwive's assistant. I was thinking ok maybe 7cm... ...Nope. There was barely any cervix left! I was shocked! Things got a little more intense at that point and my husband was following me around rubbing my back with a wet washcloth filled with ice during each contraction as I walked and moaned. ![]() Finally I got into tub as I was planning to have a waterbirth. I stayed in there for a bit when my water broke and part of the water bag fell out. I went into the labor fog at this point but I'm told they couldn't find the baby's heartbeat at this time and when they did it was at 60. All I know is the water in my tub was going down and I wanted to know why. They said, "ok you have to get out of the tub now!""WHAT?! NO WAY." Somehow though - with my husband and midwive's support and assistance - I got out of the tub and into the room on the bed. I was on my hands and knees with my head buried in the bed. Someone came from my side and put an oxygen mask on me. My husband was buried in the bed with his head right next to mine encouraging me and reminding me to breathe. ![]() I started involuntarily to grunt and push. I'm told - by my dad in another room - that I screamed at one point, but this I don't remember. About 4 pushes later, he was out! It was 3:04 am. I flipped over and my sister placed him on my chest and they threw a warmed towel over him. "What's his name?" my midwife asked. "Kadence Riley" my husband answers. "What does that mean?" my midwife asked. "Rhythmic flow and valiant" I answered. She chuckled, it really does fit so perfectly. My twins got to come in and cut his cord. About an hour later, we got to take an herbal bath where we both got to completely relax, it was amazing! He was 8lbs. 2oz., 20in long and perfectly healthy - got a 9 on his 1st apgar. I only had a small tear which didn't need to be stitched up. We were at home and in bed by 6:30am. It was an amazing experience. ![]() To leave a comment or review Click Here Read others' comments and reviews. Would You Like to Share this Page? It's easy, just click on the code below and paste.
