The Natural Birth Diary of Cecilia

I woke up at 4:30 am because I felt a gush of fluid. My water didn't break all at once it kept gushing with contractions for the rest of the morning.

I went to the bathroom and when I wiped realized it was pinkish so I waited to see if I felt contractions. I did and the first were 7 minutes apart, then 9 minutes. So I got up and around 5 am called my mom - also my doula - and woke my hubby and told them I was in labor.

My first labor was only 6 hours so I thought this would go quicker, but it didn't.

Mom arrived at my home around 6:15 am and it was a long but relaxing morning.

My contractions varied anywhere from 7 minutes to 12 minutes apart for most of the morning. Though intense I sat on the birth ball for them with a little back rub from hubby and they were easy to get through - unlike my first birth.

We chilled and talked, and even decorated the girls' room with curtains and bed ruffles my mom had made for them.

At around noon I was getting frustrated because my contractions would get closer but spread apart again, I thought I wasn't getting anywhere - little did I know.

At around 12:30PM they got pretty intense - but not closer - and I would get really hot, dizzy, and nauseous with each one. When it was over I would get a really cold chill. We thought I was getting close to transition, but were thrown off by the fact that these darn contractions would not stay consistent - nor did they ever get consistent.

At around 1:30PM or so, I couldn't take the hot spell with the contractions anymore so I got in the tub for a little bit - my 2 year old joined me - it was really cute, we got it on video.

I fell asleep for about 20 minutes in the water, good thing cause I was exhausted but wouldn't lay down on the couch cause my contractions hurt if I laid down, I only wanted to go on the ball. I was woken up by a really strong contraction, followed by another at which point I was vomiting, definitely in transition now!

I got out of the tub and got dressed, my mom was desperately calling family because no one had shown up to take my daughter, so we could leave for the birth center.

I called the midwife shortly after 3 and she said it would be 45 minutes before she would get to the center. It only takes me 20 so we waited another 20 minutes.

At this point I was really wanting to leave and my aunt, grandmother, and sister finally showed up and they stayed with my daughter and we left.

I HATED contractions in the car, especially since in the last two I was pushing without even knowing it. We got to the center and I got out of the car only to have a really strong contraction - you know how gravity can be - and yelled to my mom that I was pushing. The nurse came out and yelled to me that I would not be having this baby on the concrete and to get inside.

When I got in, I laid on the bed, which was a huge mistake, I should have stayed standing or squatting since I did not want to push laying down. But I did lay and ended up freezing up and wouldn't move because it hurt. They were telling me to grab my legs and I just wouldn't move.

Once the midwife got there a minute later, she got me to focus and I was able to push my baby girl out in just a couple of pushes.

Cecilia was born at 3:56 PM and was quickly laid on my chest - which was a big deal for me because of course the hospital did not do that for my first and I really felt like I missed out. She introduced herself by peeing on me right away.

She weighed 6lbs 14oz and is beautiful!!

Though much longer than my first birth, I labored peacefully and at home for this one. I pushed this baby out in less than 10 minutes after getting to the birth center. I wouldn't have had it any other way - well maybe at home if I would have planned better, getting in the car was no fun...I HATED it.
